A space to learn, grow, and thrive.

At Atwell, our focus is to help your child become healthy, functional, and happy through our holistic speech and language therapy services.

We’ve seen tremendous results by addressing children’s eating, breathing, and sleeping habits in addition to their developmental needs. Whether your child isn’t talking, isn’t using complete sentences, is difficult to understand, or is struggling in school, we will work together to ensure the success of your child's speech and language growth.

Our therapy programs are completely personalized to each child and always begin with an initial in-depth evaluation followed by a comprehensive plan of care. If after an initial evaluation, we find ourselves without the knowledge or specific skill set your child needs, we will use our extensive connections in our professional community to help you find the professional your child needs. Ultimately, it is our goal to get you and your child the help you need so they can learn, grow, and thrive!

Our Services.

  • Speech is how a child talks, the sounds used to form words and sentences. A child needs speech therapy if he or she has speech errors such as omissions, substitutions, and distortions of sounds and/or poor speech clarity for his or her age.

  • Language is understanding and using words together to communicate. A child needs language therapy if he has a small vocabulary, has difficulty creating sentences, following the rules of grammar, answering wh questions, and narrating past events. A child needs language therapy if she cannot follow directions as is expected for her age or has difficulty understanding complex sentences.

  • Orofacial myofunctional therapy works to increase improper resting positions of the tongue and lips, increase nasal breathing, increase muscle strength, improve chewing and swallowing skills, and address unwanted oral habits. Often, therapy is working to prepare for lip and tongue tie release and for post operative care.

  • A child needs feeding therapy if she has limited inventory of foods of various food groups or textures. Crying ,gagging, vomiting, grazing, not eating with family, not sitting to eat, taking longer than 30 minutes to eat are some of the signs that they might benefit from therapy. We can help with making the transition to the table, appropriate food progression, development of chewing and drinking skills, and the foundations for successful mealtime with successful social interactions.

  • Social skills and the ability to play and interact with peers is important at every age. A child may need social-play therapy if she has difficulty making and/or keeping friends or she is not demonstrating age appropriate play skills. On the other hand, some children perform better with a peer in a social setting than one on one with an adult therapist.

  • Thumb sucking or any oral habit such as pacifier use that is prolonged can affect facial and dental development and lead to an orofacial myofunctional disorder. Often, there is an underlying cause and remediation is one of the first steps in orofacial myofunctional therapy.

  • Therapy is often provided in a one on one session between the child and therapist. Skills are often targeted with the children. However, with mommy and me, parents can expect to work on their skills, how they play, interact, or praise their children.

How it works.

Promoting health, function and independence in children of all ages:

  1. We’ll start with a 15 minute, complimentary, phone consultation to discuss your concerns and individual needs.

  2. Next, we’ll conduct an in-person evaluation where we will observe and interact with your child, talk further with you about your concerns and goals, and review pertinent medical history. This evaluation ranges from 60-120 minutes.

  3. From there, we will create a custom plan of care based on your child’s needs. Within a plan of care, we will identify goals, recommended appointment frequency, and referrals as needed.
